Dear Barbara Lison,
Your prominence within the library landscape is more outstanding than that of almost any other individual: you are Director of Stadtbibliothek Bremen, Chairwoman of the German Library Association, Spokeswoman of BII and maintain international contacts as a member of the German National Committee of the ILFA.
Now a new equally varied and challenging task is awaiting you. As President of the International Library Association IFLA, it has become your mission to personally foster the relevance of libraries in a globalised and digitalised world. The maxim of your presidency – “Libraries building a sustainable future” – highlights the responsibility of our sector when it comes to creating a world in which tomorrow we will be able and willing to coexist with each other.
The German library community will support you in your efforts. On behalf of our umbrella association BID (Bibliothek Information Deutschland), I would like to congratulate you on the start of your presidency.
