Report on Participation in the INCONECSS

Agnieszka Wolańska went to Berlin to attend the International Conference on Economics and Business Information (INCONECSS). In her report, she gives a brief overview of the topics discussed there and what she learned from the sessions and other perspectives in the field.

„The main themes of the conference were research data, the reshaping of skills and structures, research support, and open access. However, it was noticeable that the topic of AI tools and their impact on library work in the context of the themes mentioned above appeared frequently in many presentations and posters. My presentation also addressed this issue.

An engaging panel discussion tackled the question of who should be responsible for maintaining infrastructure that supports access to scholarly electronic resources: commercial companies or public institutions.
During the discussion, two very different opinions on this topic were shared (prof Charlotte Wien from The Arctic University of Norway vs dr Argie Kasprzik from ZBW).
One argument in favour of commercial providers was that they are more independent from political influence, which could help keep the infrastructure stable and neutral.

I was glad to see the topic of Open Educational Resources (OER) addressed at the conference by speakers from Scandinavian libraries. It’s particularly relevant to me, as our university is planning to incorporate such publications into our official reading lists. Due to the rising costs of accessing resources from major publishers and libraries‘ ongoing search for alternative ways to provide users with information, this topic is highly relevant and will remain important for a long time to come.[…]
